On the afternoon of September 4, the School of Media and Communication (SMC) at Shenzhen University held its 2025 Graduate Student Orientation and Faculty Meet-and-Greet at the Huixing Building on Yuehai Campus. The event brought together over 140 new graduate students, more than 30 faculty mentors, and key leaders from the School.

Acting Dean Professor Guang Yang opened the session with a warm welcome to the incoming class. In her opening remarks, Professor Yang outlined the School’s vision for graduate education, highlighting its diverse training programs, academic achievements, and support systems. She emphasized SMC’s dual focus on academic excellence and professional practice: research-oriented students are expected to cultivate originality and scholarly rigor, while professionally oriented students will engage in intensive “bootcamp-style” courses beginning in their third semester to build applied skills and strengthen industry readiness.

The second half of the event featured an interactive faculty-student session, where professors introduced their research areas and academic interests. This exchange provided new students an opportunity to explore future research directions and identify mentors aligned with their goals.

The orientation concluded with an atmosphere of excitement and purpose. As the new semester unfolds, SMC’s Graduate Class of 2025 is poised to carry forward the School’s tradition of integrity, innovation, and impact. With strong mentorship and a vibrant academic community, these new students are ready to embark on their graduate journey in media and communication.
