On the morning of January 13, a delegation from the School of Journalism and Communication at Anhui Normal University visited the School of Media and Communication (SMC) at Shenzhen University for an exchange on teaching innovation, talent cultivation, research development, and laboratory management. The visiting group was led by Executive Dean Mei Ma, accompanied by Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee Qingshan Wu and Party Committee Secretary Yan Zhang. They were received by SMC Associate Dean Huaxin Peng, Assistant to the Dean Wensen Huang, Professor Xin Yu, and Deputy Director of the Experimental Teaching Centre Jiawei Yan.

Associate Dean Huaxin Peng opened the session with an overview of SMC’s talent cultivation approach, highlighting its close alignment with evolving industry demands. The Internet and New Media major focuses on emerging technologies, while the Advertising major emphasizes hands-on collaboration with leading companies and Shenzhen-based industry partners. The Journalism program also balances professional values with innovation, encouraging specialization in areas such as financial journalism. A key feature of SMC’s model is its integration of coursework with real-world practice, achieved by linking class assignments with capstone projects and engaging industry professionals in student evaluation processes. This approach aims to ensure graduates are well-prepared for a rapidly evolving media industry.

Assistant to the Dean Wensen Huang introduced the “SMC-Tencent Class,” a flagship experimental program designed to cultivate top-tier, innovation-oriented talent. Led by senior academic leadership, the program selects a small cohort of outstanding students and offers a forward-looking curriculum shaped in collaboration with Tencent. Courses incorporate cutting-edge topics such as artificial intelligence, large language models, and AI-driven content production, equipping students with the skills needed in the age of intelligent communication.

Deputy Director Jiawei Yan provided an overview of SMC’s experimental teaching infrastructure. The Centre has progressively advanced toward a more intelligent and integrated system. Recent initiatives include the development of an AI-powered marketing communication platform connected to mainstream large models, offering end-to-end practical training; the establishment of a high-performance computational communication and big data platform supporting both teaching and research; and the expansion of advanced facilities such as an AIGC lab and XR studio, enabling students to collaborate with industry partners—including participation in digital human content production projects with Tencent.

During the discussion, Executive Dean Mei Ma shared insights into Anhui Normal University’s disciplinary development and expressed interest in expanding collaboration in areas such as curriculum design and resource sharing. The visit laid the groundwork for future cooperation to enhance the quality and internationalization of talent cultivation.
