To explore cutting-edge technology integration in education and strengthen industry-academia collaboration, a delegation from the School of Media and Communication (SMC) visited Tencent Binhai Headquarters on April 1, 2025. Led by Associate Deans Yubo Huang and Huaxin Peng, the delegation of over 30 participants included Deans Assistants Tiantian Zhang and Wensen Huang, department heads, faculty members, and graduate students specializing in convergent journalism, along with international students.

Guided by Tencent staff, the delegation toured the Tencent Cloud Intelligence Exhibition Hall and the Digital Dunhuang Exhibition Hall, gaining firsthand experience of how advanced technologies are being applied across industries such as journalism, film, and digital content creation. Tencent Education executives shared the company’s progress in artificial intelligence-generated content (AIGC). Since its strategic pivot to the industrial internet in 2018, Tencent Cloud has built a distributed infrastructure, partnering with over 10,000 firms to deliver cross-sector solutions.

For the media industry specifically, Tencent has developed an AI-powered media platform that streamlines video structuring, clip editing, and adaptive formatting. Digital human technology has also matured, enabling innovations such as virtual anchors, sign-language news avatars, and applications in finance, cultural tourism, and beyond.

During the exchange session, faculty members shared their perspectives on Tencent’s AI-driven educational tools, highlighting that such innovations could empower students to produce industry-standard content while equipping them with skills essential for thriving in competitive job markets.

        The visit further strengthened the ties between SMC and Tencent. Moving forward, both parties pledged to deepen collaboration, leveraging AIGC to reshape communication education. Plans include resource sharing, regular exchanges, and curriculum reforms to aimed at cultivating tech-savvy professionals ready to meet evolving industry demands.
